Unite to Rebuild for Studio Unité

Studio Unité Unite To Rebuild invite poster Sparrow v. Swallow

This is a invitation that was created for Studio Unité. A group of architects working on creating better disaster relief projects. Most disaster relief structures are not really meant for permanent housing, and do not make good use of local workers or resources. Isn’t that interesting? That is what they told me. If you would like to learn more about this, then you should visit their benefit event. They will also be debuting a solar light pillow, that is not a pillow at all. It is in fact a lamp.

Virtual Laugh Therapy

This was created at help remedies. It is a virtual tool for performing laugh therapy exercises. According to teehee.com, Healthy, non-ridiculing and connecting laughter provides physiological, psychological and spiritual benefits you probably never realized or imagined. The proprietor of teehee.com is actually named Dr. Goodheart. She is also available to laughter coach you on your laughing technique over the phone. It is probably more economical to just use this virtual tool.

Creeper

My girlfriend wanted a bad, creepy portrait for her birthday. Anything for you my darling.

Beautiful Flag – Street Level Women EP

Beautiful Flag Street Level Women EP Sparrow v Swallow

I recently recorded and produced some music with my missus and a friend. For the most part the songs were built out of snippets from little jams. Then I added melodies and drones snd built them into songs. For the cover I wanted to do something weird but in a very, very subtle way. I tried to steal a few of the more restrained design ideas of 50s and 60s record covers, the kind found in free record bins that never outlasted their time, and let the illustration be very dry but have some off-kilter content. Transvestite pilgrim or lady into role play? It can be download here: »Beautiful Flag – Street Level Women

Here are some covers that I collected in my research that I find particularly interesting.

Siggi Eggertsson Interview

Siggi Eggertsson XLR8R

I was lucky enough to be able to interview Siggi Eggertsson for XLR8R magazine. Siggi is a designer I have a lot of respect for. I am just old enough to have been able to see a few different styles come in and out of fashion. Everything used to have antlers on it remember? But Siggi really has always stuck out as someone who makes the effort not to adhere to the changing canons of taste. His work is alien but somehow alludes to all these charismatic visual ideas like folk art or video game graphics, but its hard to point out any aesthetics he has lifted directly. Designers like him are rare. And he is rewarded for it, which I think is even more rare.

Interviewing noteworthy people is something I’ve always wanted to do, and I am grateful for the opportunity. It is a difficult mediation role you have to play. Big respect to Terri Gross and Studs Terkel for making it look easy. This is definitely something I’d like to do more often.

Also, I had just seen Blade Runner again so I tried to ask questions that started off with statements, as if Siggi was a replicant. He might be. I don’t know really.
